A drunk man with a craving for Chinese takeaway has been nabbed by police as he drove five times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
A senior constable from the Fawkner Highway Patrol was leaving a Chinese restaurant in Melbourne’s north with his evening meal on Saturday night when he was told by staff of an earlier customer who had picked up his order and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
The quick-thinking police officer then got into his car to pursue the alleged drunk driver.
He intercepted a vehicle on Sydney Road, Fawkner just after 8.30pm.
The 45-year-old driver, who was on his way home with his Chinese takeaway, undertook a preliminary breath test where he was found to have a blood-alcohol reading of 0.253.
The man’s licence was immediately suspended and his car was impounded for 30 days.
